Another guest entry by Regine van Asten, a Young AMASC member from The Netherlands and the project coordinator of Young AMASC.
The World Conference in Malta unfortunately has come to an end…
But not without having interesting lectures about ‘the Cost of Poverty’, ‘Education and Poverty’, the presentation on ‘Poverty in Hamburg’ by our Young AMASC members Robert, Marielle and Chantal, and a panel discussion in which Carolien Maas represented Young AMASC. Next to all the lectures and presentations we had a short meeting with Young AMASC worldwide. Last but definitely not least we had a wonderful gala dinner in Mdina including a lot of dancing!!!
When you’re having fun …

I’m very pleased to announce a guest entry by Carolien Maas a Young AMASC member from The Netherlands:
It’s 22.30 and I am exhausted. My day was filled with all kind of things I usually don’t do on a regular Wednesday. I met people from all over the world, explored Valetta, gave a presentation about Young-AMASC and had dinner in a lovely restaurant. In short: life in Malta is good and exciting! Read more…
A warm welcome
The conference started with a couple of warm welcomes, the first one yesterday at the opening mass, by our World President Hermine.
Before the holy mass, all of the participants met at the Valetta City Gate and we went to the St. John’s Cathedral together, with the national presidents carrying the flags. Archbishop Paul Cremona of Malta celebrated the mess with us and I personally liked it very much and heard a lot of positive feedback from others as well. Read more…
Tourists for a day
You want it short? Bad start, nice day!
We, the three young people from Germany, have arrived at Malta late yesterday, after a not-so-very-special flight.
Expecting to picked up for a Malta jeep safari at 8:45 this morning, we stood up early, just to find out that the jeep safari was not going to take place today and we would have to register at the congress hotel first anyway. Read more…
T minus 7 days (or things not to do right before a congress)
Hi there,
Welcome to the Young AMASC congress blog. We’ll hope to give you a nice overview on what will be happening during the World Congress in Malta that will be opened in exactly 1 week. Yes that’s right only one more week to go..
But lets start of with an introduction. I’m Claudia and for the last 4 years I’ve represented the young alumni on the AMASC board. That’s me in the middle there on the picture in the previous post.
During the last four years we’ve been very busy setting up a number of’ ‘services’ for young alumni through our extensive alumni network. You can find more information on those in the menu on top of the blog.
There are volunteering opportunities in case you’re planning your gap year or a sabbatical, our Facebook page is linked and there’s some info on the Meet and Greet database. If you’d like to join in on the last, you could fill out the online form over here and we’ll take care of the rest:
So, what about this congress?
The AMASC congress, which takes place every 4 years brings together alumni from all over the world. If you’re active within AMASC it’s the place to actually meet all those people you’ve been messaging and mailing with face to face and to meet some new friends from all around the world.
Besides a big reunion, it also incorporates the election of the new board and the AMASC GA where important business gets discussed as well as a conference on a specific topic.
This years topic is Fight Poverty and there will be speakers to highlight different aspects of poverty around the world. Some German Young alumni, Chantal, Mariel and Robert will be presenting their findings on youth poverty in Hamburg for example.
All in all its a good place to get to know all the ins and outs of AMASC and we’ll try to keep you all up to date on what is happening through this blog.
I for one will be joining you all on this side of the computer screen, following the girls and guys in Malta. In a prime example of what not to do if you are planning to go on a world congress, I went skiing a week ago and I didn’t make it back home in 1 piece. I tore a lot of stuff in my knee, so no flying for me
But for you that’s a good thing really because now I’ll be bugging people for more pictures and videos and stories so I can vicariously live my congress through them : )
I hope to see you all over here some time next week. Feel free to chip in and let us know your thoughts!
X Claudia
Getting started …
Hi everybody,
this is going to be the place we want to use, to keep you updated about the AMASC World Conference 2010 taking place on Malta from the 5. to the 10. of April.

“We” that is a couple of people from the Young AMASC who met at the Europe Meeting in The Netherlands in March this year. Discussing how to engage more young people for the network, we realized that many don’t know about the network and what it is doing at all. Read more…
